In celebration of National Poetry Day we share with you a beautiful poem written by Emma for her son Toby.

Before your life began you were a spirit child
With the wind you ran so vibrant and wild
Belonging to God yet free as a bird
But then it was me you chose, or so that's what I heard...
You picked my body before I even knew
And when we conceived it all became true.
You grew in my tummy and connected with me, I loved every moment it was just meant to be
Into our lives so fondly you came
From that moment on life would not be the same.....
Not for the reasons that most babies are
you came with a journey for us to go far
Only you knew that normal wasn't meant to be, you wanted to help teach us about epilepsy
You knew the outcome before we did you see, You knew life would be hard but still you picked me
You chose the road and exactly when it began, God gave you the choice to become a young man
You trusted my instincts and trusted my strength
You knew that for you I would go to great lengths
You knew that our journey could never be planned any more
You knew that for seizure freedom we would have to fight for
Thank you sweet Toby for believing in me even when bad times mean that I cannot always see
My strength is your spirit that's shown from inside, through you sea blue windows that sometimes your seizures can hide
My courage is yours as your bravery shows
How you get through it nobody knows
As long as I’m with you no matter what
I hold you and guide you and give it all that I’ve got
I love you my angel for when you picked me
You have shown me life's window for all it can be
We now live life simpler and appreciate small things, and I couldn't be more grateful for your life brings
I can't say it's easy but there's nothing more true
Despite all our battles I'd always pick you x
