Joe is a kind and caring teenager, with a great sense of humour and adventurous spirit. He loves trying new food, building worlds in Minecraft and is an absolute whizz on Google Earth.

Our happy, smiley boy had his first of many seizures when he was just 9 months old and diagnosed with epilepsy shortly after his first birthday. He battled with seizures until he was 4 until successful treatment with medication kept him seizure free for several years. Then, just a couple of years ago Joe had a tonic clonic seizure out of the blue. Despite numerous medication and dosage changes we have not been able to control the seizures. These occur at least monthly, and more often during the night and the onset can be silent. With drug resistant epilepsy and nocturnal tonic clonic seizures, the risk of SUDEP is very real for us and therefore we sleep lightly and can jump out of bed at the slightest noise. 

Joe’s epilepsy nurse suggested we contact The Daisy Garland to see if they could help with a bed monitor that would detect a seizure and alert us with an alarm. They have been amazing, quickly assessing our needs and fully funding our brilliant Daisy Garland Epilepsy Monitor that will not only help us, as parents to sleep a bit better, but also keep our wonderful young man safer.
