Every year Spirals Dance and Performance Academy chooses a charity to raise funds for at their annual show. 2026 is no different and this year the chosen charity is The Daisy Garland who work for children and families whose lives have been touched by drug-resistant epilepsy, providing positive support for some of the 18,000 children in the UK who suffer with this condition. The Charity's vital support includes; breaking down isolation, increasing epilepsy and ketogenic awareness, empowering parents and carers, improving mental health and most importantly bringing hope to despairing families.

Epilepsy is a condition that affects some 600,000 people in the UK, of which around 60,000 are children and some 18,000 of those have what is termed drug-resistant epilepsy. Those with epilepsy may have one or more of 40 different types of seizure, which are divided into 2 main areas. The first being generalised, where the whole brain is affected and consciousness is lost, and the second being partial (or focal), where only part of the brain is affected.

At Spirals we are committed to supporting children and young adults with epilepsy. Two of our incredible cast of young dancers on stage tonight are performing having lived with the condition for a number of years. They were involved in the decision over which charity to support and we hope that we can make them feel the decision was worthwhile by digging deep into our pockets!
